A Merlin falcon with his hunter hat and imperial gaze was painted after seeing an image of this falcon grabbing a snipe shore bird with his enormous claws. That same day there was a giant gray hawk sitting on our back fence, also with bright yellow claws--a sign to do this painting.
About Susan Thomas
I now have a new studio at 5210 S. Corbett Ave in Portland, Oregon. It's inside my husband's bookstore, Chaparral Books. This is where the latest commissioned cat and dog portraits are painted. New oil paintings include Mt.Hood, Timberline Lodge, Oregon beaches, and German landscapes that mix together images from Berlin and Munich. The next series was from sketches of Paris in 2019. Then from Moscow and St. Petersburg, Russia. My love of art means constant sketching of new images from New York to Budapest, 35 filled sketch books at last count.
